How to recolor IHTL Nameplates

Scroll to the bottom for a tutorial on nameplate #2

What you'll need:

  • Photoshop

  • The Sims Resource Workshop

Step 1: Open up the "Nameplate*Guide.psd" in photoshop.

Step 2: In the psd there are several different layers, expand the folder called "Overlay (REPLACE).

In there you will find the text you will have to change to your own horse's name. (If PS yells at you for not having the font you can replace the layer with a new text layer of your own.)

There are guides in the PSD so you know where to place your text. Make sure to stay inside the lines and avoid any dots.

Step 3: Once you have replaced the existing text with your own; hide all layers that have "HIDE AFTER FINISHED" in their name. (Also hide the "UV" layer if it is visible)

Step 4: Now you can "Save as" your finished overlay as a DDS if you have that plugin (Make sure to save as "interpolated alpha") or save it as a png.

Step 5: Open up the included wrk file in TSRW and go to the textures tab. Next click on the overlay and click the little button with the text "Edit"

In the next window that opens up click the "import" button and locate the DDS/png that you saved earlier.
***If it's a png you will have to change the file type displayed from "DirectDraw Surface (*.dds)" to "Bitmap Image (*.tif, *.png)" in the bottom right corner of the new window****

Double click your overlay and if it was a dds your image should now appear in the window. If it was a png a new window will open up and if you've done everything correctly in the previous steps you should be able to just click "Continue" - then your image should appear.

Step 6: If you've made nameplates for several horses you can add new presets to your project by clicking the little arrow next to "sculptureTableRanchHorseLittle" and clicking "Duplicate"

Now in the dropdown with the same text a new preset will be added. To add a new image just do the same as before and import it in the "Overlay" panel. Click NO when it asks if you want to replace the existing texture!!

Keep duplicating and adding images as needed (Make sure to save your workshop file often because TSRW has a tendency to be moody and crash!) If you have a lot of horses it might be easier to clone the included .wrk file instead of trying to cram them all into the same one. I haven't tested the upper limits but I'd keep it under 20 for each clone.

To clone a new copy

  1. First go to the mainpage of TSRW and click "Create New Project" and in the next window choose "New Import".

  2. Click next and browse for the nameplate you want to clone. Double click on it or click open. Click no in the window asking if this is a Sims 4 file (duh)

  3. Uncheck "preserve group ID" and click next.

  4. Name your project whatever and hit next once again.

  5. Now you have a fresh clone of the included package and you can resume with duplicating presets and importing the images.

Step 7: Now that you've added all the textures you want it's time to export your new shiny nameplates!

Go to file > Export > To Sims3Pack and name your file. Let TSRW do it's thing and when it's finished you can convert your S3P to package (If you want) or install your nameplates through the launcher and enjoy them in game!

How to recolor IHTL Nameplate 2

Follow the same steps as the regular tutorial but instead of working with the overlay we are working with the multiplier here (And the overlay if you chose the version with the stickers)

The inside of the included PSD looks a little different too. Instead of a folder with the overlay we have one called "Multiplier". In there there's a folder called "Scratched" with two layers. For my preview I didn't use a font but wrote the name myself. You can make a new overlay just the same as the other ones if you'd prefer a "painted" text rather than a scratched one you just have to hide or remove the entire "scratched" folder and save the new image as dds/png as I've explained above. Then you can add your own text on an overlay instead like we've done in the main tutorial.

If you want to make a scratched texture start by choosing one of the layers and click ctrl A > delete to remove my writing. Do the same for the other layer.

Next you can write your own text or make a new text layer with the font you want to use.

If you chose to make your own text you can now save this image as dds/png and proceed to import it into TSRW.

If you chose a text layer you'll see your new text doesn't have the same embossed effect, you can either make your own or choose to copy my layer style on your own text layer. Once you're happy you can save as dds/png and import in tsrw!

If you want to add your own stickers look in the "Overlay Stickers (Replace)" folder and remove all the layers and add your own! Hide everything apart from the stickers folder when you save as DDS/PNG!
