The EQHD horse mod is created as a full-body replacement of the vanilla EA Pets horse, to better capture realistic equine anatomy. The mod is a complete overhaul, with increased polycounts and optimized rigging to best improve on EA's model.

 

In addition, we have created and are providing updates to several other horse assets, including a new version of Cmar's original junk mod for male horses, more options for eye colors and textures, as well as an update to eyelashes to allow for more customization options. 

 

Foals haven't been left out, either! Though the changes are much less dramatic than those on the adult body (for now!), tweaks have been made to the foal mesh to correct some long-standing problems, such as their upside-down eye texture and mouth issues. 

 

For those who would like to continue to use the original EA horse mesh, we have also provided EA-horse compatible versions of some of these updates where possible. Mod options that are EA-compatible will be tagged with         .

 

A version of the updated male horse anatomy mod that is compatible with the vanilla EA body, and all required information for it, may be found here. This also includes the previously mentioned corrections to foals.

As this is a complete overhaul of the body, please keep in mind that most of the existing tack, manes, tails, and other such content will need to be updated to fit the new body. This will be an ongoing project! For creators who would like to contribute, or update their own content to fit the new mesh and rigging, resources to aid in the process of doing so may be found under the resources tab.

Some existing poses may behave in unexpected ways. In particular, poses that altered the shape of the hooves to give them a more realistic heel size may see some unwanted distortion in the hooves due to the model now being more accurate by default. However, from our testing, the majority of existing poses still appear to be working as intended. For those in the community who create poses, we have provided a new posemaker file for Blender in the resources tab, to enable creation of poses modeled directly on the new horse body.

 

Updated Stallion Markings

Because of the new location of the stallion junk UVs, older markings that allowed for recoloring the junk no longer function as intended. Therefore, we took the liberty of updating what we found to be two of the most commonly used markings, in addition to providing a brand new option by Elin for recoloring the updated stallion junk.

 

The two updated markings serve as direct replacements for the original versions; if you used either of the older markings on your horses, you should not need to re-apply them to the horses again for them to appear correct, provided that you remove the older copies of the markings first to prevent conflicts. If you cannot find the older markings, or it is merged in your files and unable to be removed, we recommend using the new EQHD marking. The other two were updated only in an effort to save users time and avoid needing to re-apply markings to existing horses.

White markings – either private or public – that previously covered this portion of the horse’s belly will also need to be updated, and this will be left up to the community. We apologize for the inconvenience!

To facilitate the process of updating these markings, and to also enable easier creation of new markings, we have provided pre-made marking creation PSD files here to allow for marking creation directly on the new horse body, with and without male junk.

HOW TO INSTALL
 

STEP 1:

 Make sure you remove all files from Cmar's old male anatomy mod:

  • cmar_StallionJunkScript.package

  • HorseSheathV5.package

  • HorseTesticlesV5.package

        File names may differ depending on the exact version of Cmar’s mod you originally downloaded!

STEP 2:

Remove eye geom assets from existing eye mods, tutorial here. If you use Dimitri’s eye mod and would like to download an already updated version of this, you may find it here.

 

STEP 3: 

Make all of your horse's textures compatible:

 

  • Add junk textures to your HD mod

  • Fix the multiplier alpha and add new overlay assets to your HD mod for the new mouth textures

STEP 4:

Download main mod and place everything in your overrides folder.

If you already have the mod installed and it is working correctly, but you need to download and install an updated version, please check the guide on what you need to reinstall here. 

If you think that you will be wanting to switch between the EA and the EQHD mod for whatever reason, PLEASE remember to keep backups of all of your original files, as making these changes will result in things being missing/incorrect when using the EA body mesh!

 

This is not a quick plug-and-play kind of mod! Your horses’ conformations will absolutely need some updating to fit the new body.
